Equipment
To be effective as an Eight Ball Pool Referee and to be in the best position to answer all questions and make rulings as and when required, the eight ball pool referee should be equiped with the following accesories while at work:
- Ball marker
- Spare cue ball (must be one and seven eighths inches and can either be a pro cup (which is expensive) or a plain white one
- Two stopwatches (incase one malfunctions)
- Small notebook and pen
- You may carry a small black toiletry bag with these items in if you don't want them in your pockets all the time.
Exams
To become a qualified Eight Ball Pool Referee requires first passing a rules exam for a small fee (currently £20), which if successful includes complimentary membership of the EPRA until December 31st of the current year.
Upgrades
EPRA rules require each referee to be a member of the Association for a full calender year (January 1st − December 31st) at their current grade before being eligible for an upgrade. Upgrades are not automatic, they require first a request from the referee and then approval at the relevent level. Upgrades to Grade A and S require further qualifications and assessments.
